Library Resource Centre

Welcome back to the library for 2010, we have loads of news and events happening this year. As you may all be aware the library has undergone major changes, Karen Hitchen our Teacher librarian retired at the beginning of the year and the physical environment has also undergone a major facelift to say the least! As part of the BER project the library has been converted into a wonderful Learning centre for the 1/2/3 Learning Communities while the building works are undertaken.
So where's the library you may ask? It's still here, albeit with a much smaller collection as a large part is being stored offsite while the renovations takes place. Borrowing will commence shortly for students in years 1-6, with the preps borrowing later in the term. This is normal practice for preps as we understand that settling into school is new for them and we don't like to overwhelm them with borrowing from the library too soon.
The students at BEPS will once again take part in the Premier's Reading Challenge in 2010 and it would be wonderful if we had a 100% participation rate. Permission forms for students will go home shortly and also be available for download.
Our library depends heavily on support from parents and the community to resource it and stock the very latest of items so that information is kept up-to-date and library-time and reading are valued as an important facet of our lives as life-long learners. We raise some of our funds when our Scholastic Book Fair takes place where parents have the opportunity to browse and purchase new books both for home and the school. Our two Bookfairs for the year will be held in May and November, more news to follow shortly.
l find that this year will bring major challenges to me in offering a viable library program for the BEPS community and l look forward to making it succeed for all, it's business as usual in our "Micro-library".
